It seems bizarre to say it – or even to consider it – but on the evidence of Wednesday night, Razldazl Raidio is not the quickest hurdler in training – kennelmate Sobering Call is!

Ricky Holloway’s brindle (T3 2-5f) took his flawless record to six when landing his semi final of the Springbok by more than six lengths. His winning time of 29.00 was three spots off his recent track record, but was run on going rated to be ten spots slower. What better way to put the run into perspective than a comparison with multi track record breaker Razldazl Raidio’s 29.39 earlier on the same card.

The hurdles seem to have made a dramatic difference to the dog who was suspended in his last Irish race when sensationally catching Laurels winner Skywalker Manner at the Shelbourne first bend and almost putting him over the hare rail.

Call was followed home by the Barry O’Sullivan pair Nans Hunter and Mystical Charlie and the Crayford handler made it four through to the decider with a 1-3 in the other semi. The race went to 29.58 (-10) winner Dranoel with Scala Mink back in third. Between the pair, four and a half behind the winner and a length in front of the third was Yassoo Martin.
