Newcastle netted the biggest points tally of any team so far in the BAGS/SIS Track Championship home leg on Saturday afternoon.
Ironically, two of the track’s strongest fancies, Some Woman and Maum Legend were both turned over as some of the lower profile runners exceeded expectation.
None demonstrated that better than Oor Wandrin Star (4-1) and Boynepark Turbo (10-1) who finished 1-2 in the ‘standard’ where favourite Ballymac Sheehy finished last. There was also a 4-1 win for Selkirk Marches in the stayers event. Two who definitely lived up to racing office expectations were Headford Sky (5-4f) and Holycross Turbo (5-1) the 1-2 in the puppy event. The in-form Crooks Cruiser (1-1f) landed the dog’s event.
It was also a decent afternoon for Belle Vue who surprising nicked second place following a 121-1 double for June McCombe’s Cathys Sky (10-1) in the bitches event and the Walton trained Steely Charm (10-1) in the elite standard. Sheffield’s sole win came from Geelo Gaga (4-1) in the sprint.
Final points: 86-Newcastle, 37-Belle Vue, 35-Sheffield, 23-Sunderland, 15-Kinsley
The five teams head next to an exciting fourth leg at Kinsley on November 13 before concluding at Belle Vue.
Overall points: 153-Newcastle, 132-Belle Vue, 114-Sheffield & Sunderland, 73 Kinsley
