GAIN May 2015 genericAirmount Tess wore down even money favourite Milldean Puma to snatch the €12,500 first prize in the Gain Dog Food Corn Cuchulainn at Harolds Cross on Friday night.

Ger Kiely’s Red Mills Unraced and Puppy Oaks finalist trapped second to Puma, with Graham Holland’s second string Jo Jo Fantasy in third. The leader and Shelbourne 575 yard record holder came under pressure after a lap as the striped jacketed Tess (3-1) drew closer.

Coming off the last bend the leader’s stride was shortening and on the dash for the line, it was Tess who got up by a short black head with Fantasy a neck behind his kennelmate.

The winner’s 750 yard time was 41.84 (-30), her fastest time of the event and nine spots slower than Puma’s fastest run of the competition.
