On Monday connections announed the retirement, through lameness, of the brilliant and consistent Chopchop Hope. Yvonne Gaskin’s bitch had previously topped the 2018 table with 20 victories, but will not be adding to his year’s total.
Droopys Live, in joint third place, will be retired if she joins them on the 17 win mark in Wednesday’s Yorkshire St.Leger Final, while Seaglass Tiger is another long term absentee through lameness.
Which brings us to Swift Biscuit who hasn’t raced since September, when he was actually beaten by Chopchop Hope.
Trainer John Mullins said: “He picked up a hairline fracture of the hock. But he has responded to treatment. But if he comes off okay after his gallop next week, he could be trialling back within the next fortnight.”
