Combined Sales promoter Brian Harrison was delighted with the turnout for Tuesday’s sales at Wimbledon.
Top lot at 6,100 guineas was Droopys Crayford (Blackstone Gene-Droopys Quinta, Nov 13). The unraced pup won his trial in 29.37 and was sold to George Andreas.
26 dogs went home with new owners – including the unfortunate Ashford Castle who broke a leg in his trial and is being re-homed by Norah McEllistrim.
The two fastest trialists on the day, Yahoo Molly (29.06) and Global Chariot (29.08) went unsold.
Harrison said: “There were only 26 sold on the bench but quite a few were sold privately afterwards and went through the books.
“I don’t know how many of the dogs will stay at Wimbledon but there were plenty of dogs sold into Hove, Sittingbourne and even as far away as Kinsley.
“I think that some of the dogs that weren’t sold had unrealistic reserves but there was still a great demand.
“I haven’t decided where the next sale will be and will decide over the next few weeks, but I would like to pay thanks to the Wimbledon staff, particularly Bradley and Owen in the racing office who did a brilliant job.”
