Star Sports are to offer a £50,000 bonus should the winning of their jointly sponsored English Derby go on to land this year’s Irish equivalent at Shelbourne Park.
Star Sports’ Founder Ben Keith, said: “We are delighted and honoured to not only be sponsoring the biggest greyhound race in the world for a fourth successive year, but also to introduce a new £50,000 Star Sports Double Greyhound Derby Bonus. The Greyhound Derby has always been the most sought-after trophy by owners and trainers and we feel it’s important that we see the best from the UK take on the best from across the Irish Sea. We go 80/1 that ante-post favourite Ice On Fire takes home the £50,000 bonus this year!”
Nottingham’s Nathan Corden, said: “This is an absolutely fantastic bonus put up by Ben and Star Sports. It is an amazing opportunity for a greyhound to win in excess of £250,000 in the space of just six months. I’m sure this will just intensify the rivalry between the UK and Irish runners this year!”
The Star Sports, ARC & LPS English Greyhound Derby gets underway on Friday 10th April 2020, with 192 greyhounds taking part in round one. The Grand Final takes place on Saturday 16th May 2020 with the winning connections taking home £100,000.
*No greyhound has ever won the English and Irish Derbys in the same year. Indeed, the only greyhound to win both events – but in separate years – was Nick Savva’s Toms The Best.
