Central Park fell one short of a full entry for the ARC Kent Plate which gets underway on Saturday.
The top three kennels in the Trainers Championship are all strongly represented, something that might have led to some reticence to enter more moderate hounds.
Racing Executive Daniel Rankin said: “The biggest issue wasn’t really a major lack of numbers, but very few wide seeds. We did ask a couple of the local trainers whether we could include a couple of their wide running top heat dogs, which they agreed to do.”
And a fancy to win out?
Daniel said: “It would have to be one of the Kings. I thought both Memphis and Capaldi looked as though they were struggling a bit in the later stages last week. But I know Rab had some sickness in the kennel and the dogs might have been a bit short of work.
“But I was also impressed with that Newinn Deejay. He ran Memphis very close and would seem to have a big future in front of him.”
