Rank outsider Clonacunny Bound clocked the fastest time in the heats of the Alan Speechley Fengate Collar over 435 metres at Peterborough on Wednesday writes Jason Craddock.
Trevor Simmonds’ dog went to traps a 25-1 shot as the bookies took no chances with 2014 Romford Puppy Cup winner Laughing Gravy at 1-4.
Laughing Gravy led to the third turn but started to back pedal as Senans Storm took the lead. However Clonacunny Bound came late to get up and score by a short head in 26.26sec.
2014 runner-up in the event Mays King landed the second qualifier.
Defending champion and odds-on favourite Lenson Tiggy was in the wars at the turn and it was left to Richard Devenish’s dog to reel in long-time leader Blakes Turbo and score by a short head in 26.44sec.
Ernie Gaskin’s Knockboy Wing landed the opening eliminator by making virtually all in a messy race to beat David Pruhs’ Kilara Razz by a short head in 26.80sec.
Pruhs has better luck in the S&D Sprint heats over 250 metres when Scolari Sound and Consecutive gave him a double.
Scolari Sound (11-4) was soon clear in the opening qualifier to score a near two length victory over Rahyvira River in 15.07sec.
Consecutive (7-2) completed the double in heat two when leading early to account for Kokcha Blue by just over two lengths in 15.26sec.
Richard Devenish’s Skyfall Dynasty (4-5f) landed the other qualifier when leading from trap to line to beat Pennys Rock by two lengths in 15.10sec.
