The Premier Greyhound Racing Regency attracted just 23 entries for a 36 runner event, despite offering a first ever £20,000 winner’s prize.
Hove Racing Manager Daniel Rankin said: “We had to make up the numbers with some of our local runners and bear in mind it is a minimum of £1,000 for being in the final. The notable runners would include Callmesteve and Blueberry Bullet but there aren’t many high profile names. I was surprised that Space Jet wasn’t entered though I gather they plan to keep her to marathons from now on.
“The good news is that we had 55 entries for the Coral Sussex Cup and the standard is exceptional. It may be that we consider switching the prize money for the two events in the future, but that is a decision for another day.”
