Here are a few interesting facts and figures from races staged in 2016
Romford was the busiest track in the country and staged 4,100 races followed by Sheffield (3,800). Mildenhall staged the least, 507. Romford also ran the most open races – 709, followed by 479-Henlow, 458-Nottingham, 382-Sheffield.
There were 4,498 open races staged during the year with total win prize money of £1,756,518 (av.£390).

37% of all open races were staged under 480m. 29% were staged between 480-500m. Only 3% of all opens were in excess of 700m and there were only 86 hurdle opens in the entire year.
Shawfield’s Moorcroft Snowy was the most prolific grader winner of the year with 18 victories from 51 races.
The busiest hound was Harlow grader Dods Pearl who went to traps on 72 occasions. The locally bred white and blue ran over three different distances.
Six tracks saw less than 30% of winning favourites – three were bookmaker owned tracks. But it was Kinsley who came out top in the punters graveyard with just 28.1% of jollies obliging. Yorkshire neighbours Doncaster was the best place to back a winner with 37.1%.
