For years British racegoers were faced with images taken of dead greyhounds in dustbins. I saw them for the first time in about 1987 and they were taken in an animal testing laboratory in the USA – God knows how many years earlier – but are still circulated by people content on shutting down British greyhound racing. Never let the truth get in the way of facts.
Now we are faced with footage of ‘live baiting’ in Australia. It is of course illegal. The perpetrators will almost certainly go to prison – but I have no doubt that the story will be portrayed as:
1) Accepted practise
2) Occurring in Britain.
Another lesson on why the greyhound industry can deal with legitimate welfarists, but must never try to appease the antis.
