Greyhound Trader were back at Monmore for the first time in two years when they hosted their ‘Gold Cup’ Sales event yesterday.
Arriving with 45 greyhounds (after Damian Matthews’ ferry was unfortunately delayed to unable his arrival), the trials were all finished within just over an hour with some greyhounds particularly catching the attention of buyers both at the track and online.
Fastest greyhound on the day was the Dunphy-bred Droopys Lyla, who went around the venue in a time of 28.75. A December 2021 bitch bred King Sheeran by Droopys Hunch, she flew from the lids in 4.38 and now looks set for a fascinating career in the UK Open-racing circuit under the guidance of Kevin Hutton having been bought for £13,400 by Tony ‘Coppice’ Brealey.
Magical Luna was the joint-second fastest in a time of 28.83. She was sold on the bench for £7800 to the kennels of Monmore-handler Kim Billingham who will be looking to follow up on her Oxford Sales purchase from the same vendor Beatties Electra (formerly Magical Electra) who won her Juvenile Classic Official Trial Stake at Towcester in 29.45 having been bought at the Oxford Sales for £3600.
Greenhill King was the other greyhound to clock 28.83 during yesterdays sales trials. The son of Pestana and Sidarian Pearl, he looked to be set to stop an incredible time until slightly cramping on the line. Perhaps one to have gone cheaply at £6400, the graduate of the Sean Conway school of excellence will no doubt be a Saturday night Monmore regular now in the kennels of Brian Thompson.
Other notable sales on the day included Magical Axel (£7800), Mystical Lexi (£5400), Easy King (£4600) and Ivy Hill George (£4200).
Incredibly, of all 45 greyhounds that showed up, every greyhound was sold (100%) and a total of 22 of them (49%) have stayed at the kennels of Monmore-based trainers. This will come as great delight to Monmore Racing Manager Tony Williamson who said…….
The next Greyhound Trader sales will be an ONLINE AUCTION to run over the weekend 28-30 July.
