Three Yorkshire breds dominated the £7,000 Leamaneigh Turbo At Stud British Bred Derby at Towcester on Tuesday.
The Jim Hayton trained winner, runner-up and fourth – Russanda Rubin (T4 11-4), Lowgate Sirius (T5 8-1) and Lowgate Malfoy (T6 8-1) were only separated by 5-4 favourite Bang On Giles (T2) in a race that went like this . . .
The winner’s time was 29.93 (-30) for the 500 metres and the distances, a length and a half and a length.
Although Hayton bred the two Lowgates, the winner was bred by Elaine Parker from the exceptional Apr 14 litter by Ballymac Vic out of Ballymac Peaches. Rubin’s littermates include open race winners Candlelight Fire (28.60 500m Sheff), Russanda Roslea (28.27 480m Sheff), plus high class graders Candleightdream (A2) and ‘Russanda’s Vicky (A2), Rhianna (D2/A2), Tilly (A2) and Vicky (A2), plus the very fast, but disqualified Ronan.
The dam Droopys Peaches (Droopys Kewell-Droopys Geneva) won D1 but barely stayed the 480 metres. She has been a prolific brood having previously thrown Holmes Memorial winner Candlelight King (by Black Shaw) and Northern Sprint runner-up Methley Bridge (by Burnpark Champ). Peaches’ was from one of three crosses between Droopys Kewell and Droopys Geneva (Droopys Shearer-Little Diamond UK). They were generally of modest ability, the best being Roker Liam (Manchester Puppy Cup). However, to Ace Hi Rumble, Geneva threw Rio Quattro, Jaytee Hellcat, Jaytee Jules and Jaytee China. Geneva’s litter sister Droopys Mo was also a prolific producer and dam of such stars as Droopys Jet, Droopys Bradley and Spinkys Nod.
