Despite having one of the most stable kennel strengths, Yarmouth recently boosted their prize money fund by £40,000 per year writes Floyd Amphlett.

The lowest grade winner on a non-BAGS card will collect £40 with £20 for the rest. The BAGS equivalents are £50 and £25.

That rises to A1 which is worth £100 (and £22) for non-BAGS event, and a BAGS equivalent of £113 and £25.

As appears to be an increasing trend among all tracks, the Caister venue are concentrating on rewarding the bigger kennels with contract payments.

Trainers with ten or more runners available throughout the month are entitled to £250. That rises to £500 for twenty or more runners and £750 for kennels with 30 racers on the card.

Promoter Simon Franklin said: “We are trying to support the bigger kennels and this seems to be the best way of doing it.

“Overall, it has been a reasonable winter. Traditionally, Mondays and Wednesdays are always quiet at this time of year and we have dropped the sole non-BAGS race from each of the BAGS cards, but added them to Saturday.”
