Yarmouth are to re-run the first heat of the George Ing St.Leger as a first race on Saturday’s card after the original heat was made void.

Assistant RM Ben Mannall said: “Jim Daly’s Leedon Brandy was behind going to the first bend but suddenly stopped and ran back. We managed to stop the hare just before the fourth bend to void the race. Connections had the option to go for a re-run or a coin spin to decide qualifiers and they decided on the re-run.

“Jim plans to get his runner checked-over and Liam Og was found to have a cut foot after the race so it will be for four runners.”

The first heat was won in magnificent style by Boylesports Star whose 40.48 (+30) for the 659m course was the fastest run since Rubys Rascal’s 40.32 last September. Mark Wallis’ runner finished fifth on Thursday. The other qualifier went to the locally trained Droopys Eager in 40.69.
