Dorotas Wildcat (Ballymac Vic-Droopys Danneel, May 15) made it 10 wins from 15 races in the Betfred Select Stakes at Nottingham with a thrilling half length, half length victory on Wednesday night.

The race went as follows with the winner in the red jacket . . . .

The 5-4f winner’s time was a fastest of night 29.61. It was the blossoming of a talent that first came to light on the same track when he clocked 29.62 on debut at just 17 months old.

The Select Stayers might have gone to a 4-1 chance, though it was the price of the winner that was wrong, not the winner.

Jason Bloomfield’s Russelena Reggie (Kinloch Brae-Russelena Barbie, Jul 14) ran from trap three, with Cloran Paddy the 7-4f running from four. . .

The winner clocked 17.72 sectional, faster than Roxholme Hat in the sprint open, and got home by just over a length in 44.13, just two spots outside Romantic Rambo’s track record.

If the press panel who chose the Select runner had been asked to nominate a ‘performance of the night’ award, both big race winners would be in there, but with what about the Seamus Cahill trained Droopys Gold (Loughteen Blanco-Droopys Force, Sep 15)? The 8-11f went from trap four in the 480m puppy open with Pete Harnden’s Salacres Koeman in six.

The winner’s time was a stunning 28.30 (+30), the fastest of the year, and the distance, two and three quarter lengths. (Swift Hoffman’s track record is 28.07)

Or what of Dropzone‘s (Sh Avatar-Bonus, Jul 15) victory in the supporting 500m open? His seventh consecutive victory?

Or maybe the successful return to racing of Tynwald Baz? Baz was the most high profile of the host track’s six locally trained winners on a sunny, busy, Nottingham summer’s evening.

His former owner and breeder would have just loved it.
