Sheffield’s outstanding youngster Lightfoot Oscar (Candlelight King-Puma Girl, Apr 16) saw off Newcastle’s best  equivalent Droopys Zaphyr in a 500m puppy open at Owlerton on Tuesday night. The winner is drawn three, joint favourite Zephyr is in five, with Losstrigg Charlie in trap six.

It was a fifth win in six career races for Sean Davy’s pup. His winning time of 28.67 (500) follows a calculated 27.49 for the 480m course. He is unbeaten in all four of his races at Sheffield.

Over the sprint, the ultra consistent Worosboro Spectre (Ace Hi Rumble-Worsboro Jewel, Oct 13) picked up his fifth win in his last seven opens in a calculated 16.01.

It proved a great night for punters with nine outright winning favourites and two joint favourites. But although the night’s biggest priced winner was returned at 3-1, its shortest priced jolly, Droopys Live, was turned over at 2-5f.

 

Tony Bullen’s Beechers Spirit (Superior Product-Sinley Bottom, Oct 15) won the fastest heat of the bitches confined Mount Cashel Kennel Stakes at Towcester with a 29.53 victory for 500m. Heather Dimmock took the 1-2 in the other qualifer as Black Eyed Hula (Iso Ocatane-Hula Baloo, Sep 15) turned over Nippy Pippy in 29.59.
