Twenty month old Coney Cactus (Kinloch Brae-Swift Palmer, Dec 15) produced the performance of the night at Sheffield on Tuesday.

Tony McKenna’s brindle and white was the youngest in the £500 Maiden 480 final. The 3-1 shot ran from trap one with Rennie Mac in five.

The winner clocked 27.87 (+10) to win for the fourth time (three different distances) in eight races, including two second places.

The other notable performance was the return to form of Candlelight Fire (Ballymac Vic-Droopys Peaches, Apr 14).

Elaine Parker’s home bred who was sidelined after going out of the Derby, went into his 50th race boasting 24 wins. That became the full 50% with the performance from trap six.

The 1-2f covered the 500 metre course in 28.65 (+10), just five spots short of his personal best which was run on going calculated at (+20).

 

Towcester’s sole open event saw a first win over the 500m course for Mark Wallis’ Mac’s On Storm (Kilty Lad-Milroad Mal, Jul 13).

The four year old had four previous successes over the 480m trip – including three clocked between 28.35/28.36. The extra 20 metres resulted in a a 29.67 run.
