Patrick Janssens duly secured the Trainers Championship with a lead of 193 points over Mark Wallis and a 25% strike rate. The big Belgian had finished runner-up in 2019 and fourth the previous year.
Mark Wallis missed out on his 12th trainers title – nobody else has more than six – while Liz McNair produced a magnificent effort to finish third, with all bar one of her runners being home bred. Kevin Hutton ‘qualified for the Champions League as usual’ while David Mullins produced his best ever performance to finish fifth.
It has been a particularly tragic year in their private lives for both Ernie Gaskin and John Mullins who finished sixth and seventh respectively.
