Towcester racing manager Chris Page is confident that changes in the meeting scheduling will eradicate the trickle of five-runner races currently being staged at the Northamptonshire circuit.

Page said: “We are short of a few runners but the issue should disappear very shortly. In the first instance, we are considering dropping the Sunday meeting.

“The attendance is a little bit below what we would like and next year, we will probably just stage one Sunday a month and keep some novelty about those meetings.

“We are committed to this Sunday and next, but with autumn approaching, it makes sense that we switch to two meetings.

“We are approaching our last Friday on BAGS and Saturday BAGS ends on October 3. We have been running 15 races on a Saturday (12 on a Friday) and may make a few adjustments there too.

“I could imagine dropping back to 13 races, but also, starting later. A 6.30pm start is just too early for a lot of people at the weekend.”

Page also confirmed that Pam and Colin Dolby will be leaving due to ill-health while Carol Weatherall plans to run a few graders.

Page said: “Colin hasn’t been well so he and Pam will probably run a few at Henlow which is closer to home. We wish them the best for the future.

“I don’t expect Carol to have too many dogs for grading, but they will probably be decent class, and her arrival won’t make a significant difference to the racing strength.”

Following a hugely successful Colossus Bets Television Trophy and Lower Stakes, Towcester have announced two smaller competitions for the autumn.

In September they plan an 18 runner puppy event (Saturdays 19th/26th) worth £2,000 to the winner. The following month, there is a 480m maiden competition spread over three Saturdays and worth £3,000 to the winner.
