It was a good night for the kennels of Paul Gregson and June McCombe as the Belle Vue owners and trainers celebrated the achievements of the local racers in 2014 at their awards party on Sunday writes John Forbes.

Gregson’s Bourne Supremacy was voted the Manchester racecourse’s Dog of the Year after a campaign in which the May 2011 son of 2009 Select Stakes winner Windy Millar and Shaws Kyut won 18 of his 45 starts, all of them in A1, and notching up successes in every month except July.

The title of top bitch went to Cathys Sky owned by Terry Riley and trained by McCombe. Bred by the trainer’s daughter Julie McCombe, this September 2001 daughter of Kinloch Brae and Breeze Hill Juli was also a highly consistent performer throughout the year, returning 15 victories from 35 starts, graduating from A4 to A1, and winning a couple of opens and recording a success at Newcastle when representing Belle Vue in the Bags Track Championship along the way.
