British bred Geelo Monty recorded the fastest Monmore 630 time in nine years when landing his semi final of the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Stakes on Thursday night.

The Carl Perry trained runner came home unchallenged in the final qualifier and drew trap five for next Thursday’s televised decider.

His biggest danger appears to be Swift Hansel, unbeaten since joining Charlie Lister and looking to avenge his Grand Prix defeat last month. The black stepped up on his heat win with a 37.44 run, and was handed back the white jacket for the decider.

In his Star column on Thursday, Pat Rosney anticipated a faster break from Newinn Blitz from trap three in his semi final. Although that happened and the 8-1 chance led from trap to line, Cuba Libre was unable to secure a clear passage behind his kennelmate and finished fifth.
