Southfield Jock remains the only unbeaten runner in the 462m Betfred Gymcrack going into the final a week on Wednesday (April 22).

Seamus Cahill’s black led home kennelmate Ballymac Manix in 27.43, the quickest of Sunday’s three semi finals.

Jock disputed the early lead with his kennel mate – they clocked identical sectionals (5.09) but skipped clear at the first bend and extended the lead to a length and a half at the line.

Stay Loose was the 6-1 outsider in a four-runner field but finally began to show the level of ability that he had first demonstrated five months ago.

After reeling in early leader Swift Carter (both runners ran a 5.22 sect) at the third bend, Elaine Parker’s runner held on by half a length in 27.51, just six spots quicker than his November qualifying trial.

The second semi saw the elimination of fastest first round winner Droopys Vodka (27.58).

In a messy contest, David Mullins’ Yesnomaybeso soon took up the running (5.25 sect) and it was left to Pat Rosney’s Vatican Cohiba (5.31) to run on for a near six length second place behind the 27.62 winner.

Draw for the £8,000 final 1) Ballymac Manix, 2) Stay Loose, 3) Yesnomaybeso, 4) Swift Carter, 5) Southfield Jock (M) 6) Vatican Cohiba (M)
