We had four new faces for the Ladbrokes Gold Collar meeting and it turned out a pretty good night for our form students.

Third runner-up was trainers representative Jason Bloomfield whose two fancies Wildfire Blossom and Oakfield Caesar both finished second. Net loss £100

Bookie Chris Trois had various trebles and accumulator combinations, which were slightly complicated when the first of them, Jom Bob Joe was withdrawn. Karlow Turbo (5-4) and Slippy Maska (4-5f) both won resulting – if our calculations are correct of Net loss £19

Chris Oliver (PA – media) went for a trixie combination of Zenas Treacle, Slippy Maska and Oakfield Caesar. The first two obliged at 5-2 and 4-5f respectively giving a Net Profit £57.50

However the Essex Einstein award goes to Paul Binks who stuck with his Romford pairing of Chopchop Hope (£50 win 2-1) and Mayshighlandreel (£50 double 5-2jf) and cleaned up with a Net Profit £575

Thought we would give the quartet a chance to repeat the trick – or in Jason’s case – to raise his game – but we had one non-runner. Bookies Chris Trois was ‘snowed under’ this week – which is bookie parlance means either counting his money (4-7f) or hiding (5-4).

Although we have a few accepted invitations already in the book, we are interested in hearing from anyone who fancies taking part in future punters’s challenges. Get in touch at [email protected]

The rules remain unchanged – the placing of a fictional £100 on the SKY card, singles or multiples. We quote early prices, but make winning calculations based on SP (since the early prices may be spread across different firms).

Paul Binks (Owners)

I have stuck with my winning formula from last week

7:43 – King Eden: was impressive winning the 575m open at Romford on Friday and I hope he can trap well enough to stay in contention around the first couple of beds before powering clear down the far side tonight. He is my NAP
8:16 -Slippy Maska: Hazel Kemp’s bitch seems to be really enjoying her racing right now and it seems the further the trip the better. I can see her battling for the lead with Slick Straus on the first circuit and proving too strong for trap 3 coming home.

PUNTING: £50 win King Eden (3-1), and £50 double with Mays Maska (9-4)

Chris Oliver (Media)

7.59 – Sporting Dave: In good heart at Romford of late before being knocked over in the Puppy Cup semi-finals there. A sprint trial suggests all is well following that tumble, the step back up in trip helps and he should turn prominently in this company.

8:16 Slippy Maska – I am sticking with Hazel Kemp’s bitch after she did the business in the Kent Cesarewitch last week. This is undoubtedly tougher but she could hardly have been more impressive that night and remains unexposed over marathon trips.

8:33 – Angry Man – Peterborough Derby finalist bounced back from Kent Derby exit with an impressive trap-to-line success here last week. Goes well here and can get first run again.

PUNTING: £25 win Trixie: Sporting Dave (2-1Slippy Maska (9-4)  Angry Man (10-3)

Jason Bloomfield (Trainer)

8:16 – Ribble Atom: This is the stiffest trip she has been over in a while. I think Crayford was too sharp for her, this should suit her better on a track where she has never been beaten.

8:51 – Barricane Tiger: He was the fastest heat winner and looks ideally drawn in red. Droopys Gold looks the obvious danger but could get held up by Bockos Alfie on the run-up.

PUNTING: 2 x £50 win singles Ribble Atom (7-1) & Barricane Tiger (9-2)
