There were shocks galore in the Best Car Parks Gold Cup over 525 yards at Shelbourne Park on Saturday when hot favourites Clares Wonder and Slippery Fred failed to qualify for next week’s final.

Clares Wonder, the Kingdom Derby winner, who had won his last four races, went off 1-2 for the second semi-final but walked out of the boxes and was stone last at the turn.

Meanwhile strong stayer Barefoot Agent had trapped to the front and stayed on well to beat Highview Triumph by a length and a half in 28.60sec.

Slippery Fred went off the evens favourite for the opening qualifier but found trouble on the run-up when trying to get across to the rails and was put out of the race with a first bend bump.

Meanwhile Elevenerife had established a two length lead sole wide seed Fiery Splendour wore him down in the closing stages to score by a head in 28.60sec.
