Racing manager Chris Page believes the best dog in the event won Saturday’s Towcester Puppy Stakes Final.

Ballymac Sheehy (Ballymac Vic-Scala Fiona, Dec 13), the youngest in the line-up, was never headed in the £3,500 decider in which he beat Whatareaction by a length and three quarters in 28.05 for the 480 metres. It was the brindle’s third win in four races, but Page reckons there are a lot more to come.

He said: “He showed great ability and was the fastest dog in the event, though there a lot of decent youngsters in the final. I could imagine Rab’s dog (the runner-up), also winning plenty when he learns how to trap consistently.”
