Next Weeks News was this week’s talking point at Owlerton on Tuesday when the dog landed the final of the Sheffield Stadium Puppy writes John Forbes.

The February 2013 son of Crash and Cornmaddy Daisy was knocked down to trainer Lisa Stephenson for 4,600 guineas at the British Combined Greyhound Sales auction at the racecourse in October and there he was knocking a “monkey” of the back of that purchase price.

Despite a sluggish start, the dog made good use of his early pace, led the favourite, the highly regarded Glenpadden Rock, into the back straight and then held on gamely for a neck success in 28.05 for the 480 metres.

The winner is from Roman McCusker’s outstanding litter that also features open winners: Kneejerkreaction and Likeitalot (first and last in the Newcastle Puppy Derby), plus three more open race winners: Johnny Vivaro, Watch Your Face and Well Refreshed.
