Mark Keightley, husband of trainer Hayley, confesses that the kennel have been put into a spin in their preparation for the forthcoming Ladbrokes Golden Jacket.

Their 5-2 ante post favourite Roxholme Dream clocked a flying 23.27 (-10) in a recent 380m trial at Crayford but plans have had to be altered in the interim.

Keightley said: “There are still no details of the event in the calendar and we assumed that the race would be over three separate Saturdays.

“But reading the Post today, it appears that we are a week and a half out, we are looking at five weeks instead of three and a half.

“So we are not quite sure what we are doing now. We may look for a four bend race, against bitches, at somewhere like Hove, before returning to Crayford for a 380m and 540m trial.

“On the plus side, we know that Dream runs well when fresh. On the downside, I would much prefer a week between races.

“It isn’t that greyhounds can’t recover in time, but if they do come off with any soreness, it gives you an extra few days to get them right.

“I would ask promoters to consider that in the future. It has to be in everybody’s best interests.”
