Romany Rouge looks a potential stayer after impressing in the Stadium Bookmakers Puppy 480 at Nottingham last night writes Jason Craddock.

Richard Devenish’s runner, who was one of Peterborough’s Track Championship winning team, came from off the pace to beat Johnny Vivaro by three and a half lengths in 28.83sec.

Assistant trainer Dilys Steels said afterwards: “In the Track Championship the dog gave himself little chance with a slow start but he came away much better this time and was never too far away from the front.

“He really powered into the drop-off and I think he will make up into a decent six bend performer.”

In the meantime he will be aimed at the Monmore Puppy Derby in March and will probably take in another few races at Nottingham beforehand.”
