Romford have scheduled Friday September 6 for the re-opening of their new grandstand and are hoping to do so in some style.
Director of Stadiums Ian Smyth said: “We will be closing the stadium between August 12th and 15th to allow the dog re-trial after the racing circuit has been reversed. There is no requirement in the rules to do so, but we prefer to do so on welfare grounds.
“We will have a ‘soft opening’ on August 16th when we will open the bars, and on the 23rd for the restaurant. If all goes to plan, both will be open on the 30th in preparation for the big night a week later.”
The track is due to re-open at roughly the same time as the Puppy Cup, Champion Stakes and TV Trophy are all due to be staged. Is there a chance of combining any of them with the opening night?
Smyth said: “I would be fairly confident that we could do something. But we can’t be too specific until we get clearance from GBGB on dates to run the various events.”
