The World Cup may now be fully underway but that won’t stop Romford putting on their weekly open card. With nine open races from thirteen there is a lot of action to be had at the Essex Venue. One particular maiden stayers race includes an Yorkshire Oaks winner, Sussex cup finalist and Media Group Oaks finalist up against a greyhound derby finalist. Not your usual maiden stayers affair. For that particular race at 7.18pm I have found out more about one of them along with one other returning to Romford.

Anyone who follows the open race scene will know of Donation and Bombers Bullet. As mentioned above the quality in the maiden stayers race at 7.18pm over 575 metres is unbelievable. It is Donation, the Yorkshire Oaks winner, Media Group Oaks and Sussex Cup finalist that is the focus of this week’s column. The July ’15 whelp is in fine form presently and with several finals to her name clearly has consistency. The daughter of Droopys Cain and Delightful Flyer won at Hove over 515 metres last week as well as reaching the Sussex cup final last year. Last week around the Sussex venue she led from the fourth bend giving the impression she can stay further.

Trainer Heather Dimmock on Donation said: “We will find out on Friday if she stays. She runs on well at Hove over 515 metres so hopefully will. We have given her a short six bends race and if she does stay will take her to Sunderland for the Grand Prix. Staying is in her breeding so will hopefully stay. That is why we bought her. She is in a top class race, especially as a maiden. We hope she gets a good start and shows us what she can do over six bends.

“She has been to a few tracks first time up and ran well. Hopefully she will take to Romford first time around.”

Donation is currently 6/4 with Ladbrokes and should be considered if you want to take on Bombers Bullet. She is well drawn and looks a natural stayer in the making.

After a seven week hiatus popular local raider Miss Boley is back at Romford in heat two of the Romford Friday night standard at 8.06pm. Over 400 metres, the

October ’15 whelp will be looking to get back to winning ways after four unsuccessful attempts on the road. Those races were at Nottingham and Towcester and importantly she never got drawn in trap one. The daughter of Premier Fantasy and Boley Lass revels being in the red jacket and tonight has that. The October ’15 whelp needs trap one and will surely benefit from being where she wants to be tonight.

Trainer Philip Simmonds on Miss Boley said: “She looks like she is well drawn. She is a different bitch in trap one and I’m looking forward to Friday. She is one of my favourites for the night.”

Coral make Miss Boley a 11/4 shot and that must be taken. She loves the rails and will relish the being in trap one tonight.

Apart from suggesting Miss Boley has a good chance tonight Simmonds was asked if he felt any of his other ten runners had chances. To that he replied: “Drumcrow Sherpa. He has a chance in the maidens final. He is a progressive pup and we are looking at the Puppy Cup for him in September.”

Drumcrow Sherpa contests in the final of the Romford Friday night 500 maidens over 400 metres at 8.54pm. He is currently 5/2 with Corals.
