When the outstanding times of the year are contemplated at the end of the year, few will better a track record equaling run set in a graded race at Belle Vue on Saturday.

The last time that 27.20 flashed up on the Manchester screens was back on 4 October 2007 when Barnfield On Air better his own course best in the semi finals of the Laurels. (He was beaten at 2-7 in the final a week later).

On Saturday, it was Bev Heaton’s Ballymac Ambrose (Ballymac Best-Coolavanny Angie, Nov 16) who equalled that fabulous run when taking an A1 by six and a half lengths. His previous best was 27.53.

Ambrose is from a fine litter that inlcudes Ballymac Anton, who went out of the Irish Derby on the same evening, Akelawre (29.32-550yds Shel Pk) and sister Ballymac Arminta (27.70-525yds, 29.12-550yds Shel. Pk).
