Midtown Raffa justified favouritism to land the Irish Independent Laurels over 525 yards at Cork.

Mossie O’Connor’s runner, a 2-1 chance, matched early strides with early bird Knocktoo Garry before going clear at the opening turn.

Local runner Burgess Rumble managed to turn in second place but has no chance of picking up the winner, who went on to score by five and a half lengths in 28.31sec, which was his best return of the competition.

Another local dog Mimis Ace ran on well to finish third, a further short head behind.
