Mark Wallis’s second string Patchys Kerry (7-1) landed the Coral Champion Stakes Final over 575 metres at Romford on Wednesday.

The favourite Jet Stream Sound was left flat-footed at the start and it was 10-1 shot Franks Dream who went into a clear lead from Teejays Panther and Patchys Kerry, with kennelmate and course specialist Adageo Bob in fourth.

Patchys Kerry moved into second passing the judge for the first time and hit the front off the last turn to score by three quarters of a length in 35.58sec.

Wallis said afterwards: “She is a great bitch in her own right being a Monmore Puppy Derby Finalist and I’ve been saying all along that she was a lively outsider.

“It was the first time she had got a decent draw on the rails and capitalised from it well. I think she will be a bitch for the future and may make up into a useful stayer over a proper six bend trip.”

On Adageo Bob, Wallis said: “He didn’t come away but tried his hardest and well bring him back for the Essex Vase in December.”

Frank Taylor, the winning owner said: “I just bought her for breeding as she has great bloodlines and to win this is brilliant.

“I was one of the original sponsors, along with with the late Bobby Jack, of this race which started this race in the 1980’s, so it is extra special to win.”
