Elaine Parker had good reason to look to the future with some confidence after the heats of Tuesday night’s puppy competition at Sheffield.

The local trainer’s Light Foot Mata, an October 2013 son of Droopys Scolari and Light Foot Molly, made the perfect entrance onto the racing stage when he showed determination in the first heat to overcome early problems in running and produced a late challenge that carried him to a length and a quarter victory over sibling and kennelmate Lightfoot Powell in 29.34 for the 500 metres.

And fifteen minutes later the kennel was celebrating again as Adamant Apolo landed the second qualifier. Off to a flyer, the July 2013 son of Scolari Me Daddy and Thurlesbeg Lucy made all to breeze home two and a quarter lengths clear of the promising Geelo Yo Yo in 29.19.

Harry Crapper’s Dinzeo set the standard in the stayer’s competition on the same card, the dog clocking a 39.42 for the 660 metres as he defeated kennelmate Worsboro Phantom by a length and a quarter, with Coolboy Blitz scoring for Russ Warren’s team in the second heat where he accounted for Russanda Blue by threequarters of a length in 39.45.
