Shaun Spencer-Perkins believes that the track’s lack of open races was the principle reason for the departure of June Harvey to Wimbledon, but the Poole GM remains confident that the track has more than enough dogs to cope.

He said: “We haven’t had any open races since the Golden Crest and we probably won’t have any until early next year. June has a lot of fast dogs and the attraction of open racing at Wimbledon was clearly a big draw.

“But she remains very popular here and we will always consider her as primarily a Poole trainer. I will be surprised if we don’t see her back here in the new year. I certainly hope so.

“Because her kennel was primarily concentrating on open racing, it will have a very marginal impact on our graded strength. We have been given another BAGS contract to race on Saturday afternoon, and we will have no problems fulfilling those obligations.

“We start in November, and as last year, will also race on the Saturday evenings. There will be eight BAGS races and at least ten every Saturday, twelve if at all possible.

“The Christmas bookings are already significantly higher than last year which is very pleasing.”
