The North Yorkshire bred Lowgate Onyx – from the 2014 Litter of the Year – landed a scrappy final of the Truframe Greyhound Stud Book Trophy over 500 metres at Nottingham on Saturday.

Fastest heat winner Calco Flyer was the even money favourite but never took part after early crowding

Kim Billingham’s Kaybee Ace led to the turn but local runner Alma Valentine forced her way past and looked set for victory.

However she let the field close into the last turn and took a bump, which allowed Jim Hayton’s Lowgate Onyx to come storming through and beat Fabulous Landing by half a length in 29.99sec.
