The latest in a series of clangers by the Irish Greyhound Board saw them apologising for an article on their own website. A statement distancing the Board from a post that was published “without the consent of prior knowledge of the IGB” and subsequently removed.

The article in question was heavily critical of proceedings at the Public Accounts Committee proceedings at Leinster House which was described as “an inquisition”. It described one chairman as being “more sympathetic” than Tipperary TD Alan Kelly who has emerged as a champion of those opposing the sale of Harolds Cross. The article described Kelly’s questioning as “aggressive” which resulted in “less progress” being made.

Meanwhile the Dublin Greyhound Owners & Breeders Association appear to have called the bluff of the IGB by offering to withdraw the picket from Shelbourne Park and not oppose the sale of Harolds Cross on one condition of two parts. They should be allowed to return to Harolds Cross and continue to race until the site is cleared for the construction of a new school AND that the site is actually sold for the €23m quoted by IGB. They have asked for Alan Kelly TD to broker the deal.
