Monmore are looking to appoint “one or two” trainers following the decision of Chris Allsopp to leave the industry and the plan that head man Steve Masters would take his place.

Racing manager Tony Williamson said: “I think Chris was a bit caught out when the plan for Steve to take over fell through. As Chris made public, he has become quite disillusioned with greyhound racing, including the increased work load of going from four, to five, to six meetings per week.

“He also has a very profitable boarding kennel and has simply decided to walk away. Ironically, he is having his best year for the last four or five and is leading the trainers table by around 30 winners.

“Chris has one of our bigger kennels and although some of his 50 or so runners will go to other local trainers, we feel we will need at least one, or possibly two, new trainers to maintain an ideal kennel strength of around 580 dogs.”
