There were a few pointers for the forthcoming Ladbrokes Puppy Derby in the opens at Monmore last night.

Pat Rosney’s El Lema (April 2013 pup) made a successful debut in the Banks’ Bitter Stakes over 480 metres when making most of the running to beat Glenpadden Rock by three lengths in 28.22sec.

The time was matched by Sandra Ralph’s talented local Droopys Turin (July 2013), who was soon in front to hold track mate Honest Portrait by a length in the second division.

June Harvey’s Aimnfire (May 2013), a half-brother to the likes of Droopys Nidge and Millwards Teddy, was soon clear in the third division to run out a near four length winner over Swift Cater in 28.38sec.

All the performances were put in the shade by Chris Allsopp’s Express Master in the all-aged contest when he was soon clear to beat La Cuchilla by five lengths in 27.93sec. Juvenile candidate Swift Hoffman, the odds-on favourite, finished third.
