Newinn Shadow (Kinloch Brae-Newinn Expert, Dec 14) showed he is on his way back to form when landing the feature event at NOTTINGHAM on Monday night. The 4-6f for the £500 480m final, ran from trap five. Billys Ruby ran from trap one.

Charlie Lister’s runner, who was sidelined for four months, got home by a length and a half in 28.92 (+20) – the only sub 29.00 run on the night. Connections will be hoping for further improvement for the Puppy Classic finalist who recorded 28.34 (+20) over the course and distance at 19 months old.

Next quickest on the night with a 29.11 run for the 480 was Corrin Boyshane (Shaneboy Lee-Corrin Minnie, Aug 14). While the time was not spectacular, Boyshane’s versatility certainly is. Contesting only his 18th race, the Ernie Gaskin trained brindle and white was able to add Nottingham to his list of successes which includes Romford, Belle Vue, Swindon, Monmore and Central Park.

It was a bloody night for open race punters at DONCASTER : Sidarian Bullet 7-4, Keplar Nine 4-7f, Lightfoot Scolar 4-6f, and Oscar Junior 6-4, all bit the dust. The sole saviour was Theos Rocket (Tullymurry Act-Athbooy Fantasy, Aug 15). Sean Davy’s 4-6f landed the 450m puppy open in 27.55 (N), his third win in his last four outings.
