One spot separated the fastest two heat winner in the first round of the Nottingham British Breeders Stakes on Monday.

Candlelight Fire went marginally quickest with a 30.03 victory, King Kid was next quickest. It was a mixed night for the McNairs with Kid’s brother King Eden, beaten but through, but the highly rated King Turbo eliminated. The latter’s sister ended the meeting on a positive with victory in the final heat.

Other shocks on the night included the elimination of Roxholme Wil I Am and former Doncaster track record breaker Apache Kid.
