Class similarities but only 90 races apart

90 races separated the two outstanding performances at NOTTINGHAM on Monday night.

The first of them was the impressive victory of Forest West (Rio Quattro-Forest Mollie, Jan 16) in the heats of a 480m maiden competition for Hayley Keightley.

Eliminated on his racing debut in the Henlow Maiden Derby, the 32 kilo black was made a 2-7f based presumably on his most recent 500m trials (29.72 +30, 29.84 +40). He was soon in control and pulled away for an eight length win in 28.40 (+40). The other two qualifier went to Holdem Zidane (28.76) and Da Boomerang (29.04).

The meeting had not started well for Kevin Boon whose Murrys Act had been beaten at 1-3f in a 680m event. (The race had got to the Lawrence Tuffin’s pair Kilara Phantom (14-1) from Pointless Pearl (5-1), the first two legs of a £424 trio).

However, the journey back to Norfolk would have been lightened by the 28.79 (+30) victory of Shaneboy Freddie (Oaks Road-Shaneboy Sophia, Sep 13) in the final of another 480m event. It was Freddie’s 27th victory in a 92 race career.

Meanwhile at Doncaster. . .

Billys Ace (Tyrur Big Mike-Siva Dubh, Jan 16) made it ‘two from two’ with the performance of the night at DONCASTER on Monday. Jim Brown’s black covered the 483m in the fastest time of the new year, 29.55 (N).

Mudross Chris (Tyrur Big Mike-Golden Apple, Jul 16) also completed a 2/2 record when taking his second 450m open. Charlie Lister’s pup clocked 27.81 (N).
