Trainer Seamus Cahill is hoping Crossfield Molly (Blackstone Gene-Droopys Thrill, Nov 13) can set the tone for the Cahill kennel when landing the £10,000 Lowther Stakes at Towcester on Saturday night. The kennel is doubly represented at Nottingham in Monday’s Puppy Classic Final (littermates Newinn Shadow & Ballinakil Biddy) and a very strong chance chance with Starring Storm in Wednesday’s Coral Champion Stakes decider at Romford.

Crossfield Molly went into the 500m Towcester final on the back of a one length defeat by Domino Storm in the semi finals. She was draw orange in the decider, on the inside of kennelmate Live Annie and both were rated 7-1 chances by the layers with Domino Storm (T1) the 4-5f and her kennelmate (T2) rated a 12-1 shot.

The race went like this . . . .

Cahill said: “Molly had a bit of a flat spot after the Derby and didn’t run particularly well in the first round (at Towcester), was a bit better in the second round, and was even better in the semi final where she went to the bend but moved off at the second and allowed Domino Storm on her inside. I thought that if she lost a bit less ground at the bend she would take some beating. To be honest, I thought my two bitches were drawn the wrong way round, so it just shows.

“I was delighted with the run in such a high class competition. I haven’t decided where we go next, I’ll speak to the owners but possibly the Kent Derby, and there is also the Brighton Belle.”

So quite a standard for her kennelmates to set?

Cahill responded: “Fingers crossed our luck holds out, but the flags are certainly flying here this morning.”
