Michael Kemp’s faith in Slippy Maggie proved well founded though she had to display every ounce of her grit and determination to win the Jay & Kay Coach Tours Kent St.Leger.

A shock looked on from trap rise as the two market leaders missed their kick and trailed the field.

Roxholme Poppy was fifth at the third bend, Slippy Maggie was last at the same stage. But Hazel Kemp’s showed great determination from the fourth bend onwards. In the latter stages, the question was could she catch the big priced outsider Cleaning Doctor.

The 9-4 winner got home by a short head in 45.72, much to the delight of connections.
