Three of Kelly Macari’s kennel stars went through their paces at Newcastle’s Thursday trial session and they all got the thumbs up. Conna Trigger led the way with a fastest-of-the-session 17.02 for the 290 metres, while Pinpoint Maxi clocked 17.15 and Pinpoint Finas 17.31.

The trainer’s husband, Tony Macari, said: “It was a nice run back from injury for Conna Trigger, while Pinpoint Maxi pleased us as he has not run since The Laurels final in December. Pinpoint Finas also went very well. However, he is four and a half now and we will take things very slowly with him and if he does get another knock we will probably retire him.

“We are likely to concentrate on sprinting with Conna Trigger for the moment and see how that goes, while the target for Pinpoint Maxi will be the Pinpoint Healthcare Stakes at Newcastle’s Gala meeting in May and, if all goes well, the pair of them will go on to Wimbledon for the Derby.”

Ted Soppitt’s Calzaghe George, who has a sprint engagement at Nottingham on Monday, was fastest over the 480-metre trip, going round in a 28.61.
