Heather Dimmock’s Holdem Rio (Crash-Cornamaddy Maid, Jul 14) won a thrilling Peterborough Puppy Derby Final. Contesting his 13th race, the pup with six wins in his previous eight races was a generous 7-2 and made no mistake despite recording his worst sectional of the competition when leading at the first bend. Chased to the line by the game ante post favourite Newinn Shadow, the front running Rio held on by a head in 26.24 (-20) for the 435m. Ballymac Mccole and Savana Lord were both beaten a distance after being KO’d at the first bend.
