monmore-jan-feb-sale-ppack-jpegMonmore’s Lawrence Jones Memorial meeting defied the weather and the kennel sickness sweeping the country and was a huge success under its new format of 14 one-off £1,000 opens.

Racing manager Tony Williamson reckoned the the best performances on the night came from Puppy Derby winner Castell Henry who landed one of the 480 opens in 28.55.

Williamson said: “He loves the track and led throughout to win in style which was brilliant to see. Dorotas Del, who must be a 2017 Puppy Derby prospect, won well improving from his trial and showing great early pace to win by three lengths.

“He beat Paul Young’s Pacey Bambi who ran on well after easing up at the first bend both will be worth following.

“The best local performance was Pat Cowdrill’s Image Carrana returning to show her early promise winning the bitches race.

“It was a great night of racing celebrated and enjoyed by the Jones family. All the runners arrived on time for both kenneling times which was remarkable considering the weather conditions for traveling. Unfortunately the 835 race was declared a no race due to human error when the curtain came on to the track as the greyhounds where on the first circuit apologies to connections of all the runners.

“All in all it was a good night of racing and we thank the Jones family for staging the memorial evening at Monmore once again.”
