Andy Lisemore’s greatest challenge as the new senior head of racing at Peterborough, will be balancing his racing fields. That’s the view of former racing manager and consultant Con Baker.

The much traveled Lismore, currently the assistant RM at Towcester (and a former Greyhound Star writer), is due to switch to Fengate next month following the departure of Paul Miller.

Baker said: “Unlike many tracks, we don’t have problems in terms of pure numbers with around 330 dogs on the strength.

“But the imbalance between railers and wide seeds, which emerged over recent years, is a far greater problem. We recently calculated that less than 10% of our available runners are wide seeds, when ideally, you are looking for a third.

“Sometimes we will have five-runner fields to ease the problem, but last minute withdrawals and a lack of suitable middle reserves can often lead to four-dog races.

“But I am sure Andy will have his own ideas about tackling the problem and we are delighted to have him on board.”
