The only cheers louder than than the Leicester City fans on Monday night were NOTTINGHAM ADVERT2from the Nottingham bookies.

12-1, 5-2, 12-1, 7-2, 1-1f, 6-1, 2-1, 14-1, and 10-1: the SPs of the nine open race winners with a series of odds on favourites having sand kicked in their faces.

The two shortest priced winners were both sent out by Richard Devenish in Mustang Major (1-1f) – winner of a 500m qualifier in 29.93 and Oscarsupreme (Head Bound-Millies Supreme, May 13), the 2-1 chance who turned over Rafas Wee Jet to land a £500 final in 30.10 (all +20).

Their kennelmate Ballymac Godsend (5-4f) was beaten by 7-2 chance Forest Gavin in 17.98

However Devenish’s shortest priced runner Romany Rouge (4-7f) was also turned over, in this case by Charlie Lister’s Coolavanny Lass (Ace Hi Rumble-Oneco Vixen, Aug 12) who returned at 7-2 when clocking the fastest 680 of the year, 41.56.

Laughing Gravy (4-7f) came off third best in a four way photo where Gerry Ballentine’s 12-1 chance Glenhill Di (Droopys Scolari-Katies Quadrigo, Dec 13) stopped the clock at 17.94 (+10).

It was a bad night for the Pruhs kennel who also saw Fir Right (1-1f) beaten by 6-1 shot  Garyglass Penny (Hades Rocket-Bluebell Fantasy, Aug 13) in 30.18 for the 500m.

The rout had started when Lister’s 12-1 chance – you don’t get many of those – Colins Peace (Mall Brandy-Noelles Swiftco, Jul 14) landed the standard in 30.19 with La Termino(4-7f) in last place.

The night ended with Clever Jamie (4-7f) losing his unbeaten record at the track to Kim Billingham’s 14-1 outsider Kilfane King (College Caueseway-Royal Rose, Apr 12) who landed the 730m open in 45.07 – followed by Charlie Lister’s hat-trick seeking Pennys Rock (1-2f) being chinned by 10-1 chance Piemans Blast (Larkhill Jo-Tyrur Fergie, Sep 13), in a 17.92 sprint.
